The Shining (1980) 2/2 (what?)

"the ghost make dad go crazy"

"the poster has his face sticking through a hole in a door."
just walking around endlessly looking at kitchens.

suspenseful music

Somehow a black man enters the hotel

Could this be the same mind that gave us Easy Rider? and Dr. Strangelove?

(i really gotta watch 2001 again cause i really didn't get it)

The little kid is weird

Why is he yelling "redrum" instead of just "murder"????

why it's backwards and requires a mirror

I drive to work and back (and sometimes to the store or to visit my cats) almost every day

after so much time behind Riding Danny the last thing you were expecting to find was two murdered sisters.

Can someone please explain

This movie is about a man who likes to shout things through gaps in doors.

the poster has his face sticking through a hole in a door.

I am not convinced that Jack Torrence is a sane man

The young boy putting on that voice was really annoying and there was no need for it although the voice is probably supposed to symbolize a invisible friend

if you want to let a child see this, even if they are tough, make sure that they understand what they are watching.

Jake saw a naked "ghost" and he was so happy. that's not right, he is married.

It is weird that the movie is so different than the book

I made a little research and I found out a logical explanation to everything that happens in this film

Hotel seems a lot scarier due to the 70's interior design.

The Shining (1980) 1/2 (Hated it)

"I'd like to smack the people who tell me it's the scariest movie ever made."

"Heeeeeeeeeere's Johnny"
it shouldn't be considered a horror film but rather a comedy

He is a caretaker and must take care (duh) of the hotel during the winter

The only horrifying thing about it is how it became so popular.

I found this rubbish film in the horror section. If I owned a video store I'd put it in the BORING section.

I never understood what is the big deal about Stanley Kubrick.

A Clockwork Orange had so many ugly scenes and unlikeable characters. The music was horrible too.

"if the filmmaker is a genius, then the film is a work of genius and must be excellent."

He is one of those directors who produces very long, boring movies

Try watching a few scenes on fast forward, and you'll get the joke.

fans of the far larger Stephen King world were severely disappointed.

Stanley Kubrick f*cked Stephen King's book big time!!!

I ask again, how is this scary? How?

Friday the 13th was nominated for worst pic the same year and the movie is 100% scarier and better than this movie.

Everyone talks about the bicycle scene with amazement. Yes, it was interesting, but...

The hatchet scene is the best (the only best) scene of the movie.

Then there is that ridiculous hedge maze.

yeah, there is no maze in the book

The end is the worst ending ever possible

SHELLY DUVALL=Deserved to die, she was that annoying.

She looks like Olive Oyl from the POPEYE cartoons.

She was just annoying and I was pleading with the movie for her death.

What can I say? I would have killed this mealy mouthed, butt ugly, whiny woman long before he did.

There really was nobody for me to cheer for.

The kid talking to his finger is another idiotic

being locked up with those two would put anyone's nerves on edge.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

"I had a teacher who told us that we really needed to watch it"
He wastes no time making an impact on his students, saying "Carpe Diem," or "Seize the day" to them.
a film that explores the idea of "Carpe Diem" (seize the day)

the simple motto of "carpe diem"

which is Latin for 'Seize the day'.

Carpe Diem, because the days don't stand still

seize the day

enjoying life, and thinking "Carpe Diem"

It has a good message: "Carpe diem"... I completely agree with that

those moments, aha, life was "WOW" then. Carpe diem, indeed!

Poetry on the screen

not only "Carpe Diem", but a certain phrase from a Walt Whitman poem will take on incredible meaning and be remembered forever.

my barbaric YAWP over the rooftops

over the rooftops of the world!

the lesson has been learned; carpe diem, seize the moment

lives worth living and beautiful - Carpe Diem, Seize the Day!

realize " Carpe Diem "

carpe diem! Go rent this movie!
One of the things that John Keating emphasized was "Carpe Diem"
a cliché, a cinematic masterpiece

will leave you chanting Carpe Diem

and still "Seize the day!"

Seize the day! Carpe Diem! Fine words

Carpe Diem everyone

I mean it! Carpe diem!

I could watch it over and over

philosophy of life, summed up by the Latin phrase

Carpe diem. Even if it kills me.

The spirit of Carpe Diem

got a tattoo on my arm that says "Carpe Diem"

the iconic 'carpe diem'

the whole "carpe diem"

I'm never bored with it

Jurassic Park (1993)

"I only watched it to see the dinosaurs"

who haven't seen this movie (there are people like that?)

Directed by the mighty Steven Speilberg

I remember being a kid when I first watched it

Never before 1993 had dinosaurs been so breathtaking

Park bedazzled us with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs that are EXTINCT.

awesome T-Rex

Behemoths, Spinosaurious, Stegosauruses... triceratops and Brachiosaurius accompanied by a herd of Parasaurolophus.

Grand Revelation with the brachiosaurs

raptors and the T-Rex, the scene with the T-Rex

T-Rex chases the jeep

they are chased by the T-Rex

see the dinos and enjoy a relaxing time at the park. Could anything go wrong, at the time it doesn't seem like it

I even had a backpack with a Velociraptor

1993 was perhaps the best year

Vertigo (1958)

"basically, no one does anything logical in this film"

"terribly annoying with something continuously spinning."
The movie is hard to understand and it drags on for too long.

It's all about an old guy in a car who is chasing a woman

I know all film plots are naturally goofy

Jimmy Stewart on some wild goose chase following a friend's wife to see if she's possessed by a demon(?!?)

The actors are either plastered or made of wood.

as if they're half-asleep on drugs.

How anyone could begin to fall in love with such a frigid, boring personality as played by Kim Novak is beyond comprehension.

She is consistently out-performed by trees, buildings and props

I sat in my seat wishing it would end

James Stewart was about to faint after standing on a chair

clearly far too old to be playing romantic leads at this point in his career

slow moving character

he's mute, staring and unresponding in the hospital

Scottie's problems go deeper than his understandable fear of heights.

An amazingly sexist viewpoint

Stewart's character becomes so obsessive and controlling

Why would she allow easygoing Scottie to coerce her into wearing all those new clothes and unraveling her disguise after seeing that he was suspicious?

a man's attempt to reshape a woman into the image of a woman he thought he loved and lost, not realizing they are the same woman

He ought to have been served a restraining order.

Every movie I've seen him in he's been the same idiotic dimwit. His intended affable, lovable goofy exterior only irritates, frustrates and makes you want to set fire to the videotape

There were so many unnecessary camera shots

embarrassingly silly plot

The use of colour is probably the only good thing about this

Each time I watch it I find less and less

I've actually seen it three or four times

I wish this film had stayed away from me.

Jaws (1975)

"Sharks aren't frightening if you have enough sense to stay out of the water"
"a silly, made-for-kids adventure"
I haven't seen the whole movie in a long time, but from what I remeber it's boring.

just a shark moving around, and killing people

However, there was only four shark attacks

only 4 actual shark attacks over the course of the film

I never felt particularly connected to any of those characters

There was no struggle between the victim and the shark and hence the intensity of excitement was very low.

Lots of talky dialogue

the unlikable and stupid three-man crew does all the wrong things.

I wanted Jaws to eat them all

A real shark wouldn't do the things that mechanical shark did

I was 6 when I first saw this

'Jaws' did a great job in terrifying people

it traumatized an entire generation

no one I knew would go out to the deep water anymore after seeing it.

we were all afraid to go into the water

on many vacations to Mexico and Hawaii, as well as to Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Islands, etc., I didn't go in water past my knees.

Grizzly Man (2005)

"I think the bears just got sick of his shenanigans."
an hour and a half of people with awkward expressions on their faces

resorting to animals as friends

Tim Treadwell is off of his rocker. He is delusional, arrogant, hostile, belligerent and quite insane.

painful to watch

lunatic goes to Alaska and is eaten by bears
"the idiot who thought bears were fluffy harmless things"
it was obvious he was a delusional half- wit. When I see people like him on the street, I walk to the other side.

This was a terrible attempt at making a raving nut case look like some type of naturalist martyr.

His death was inevitable.

You play with bears, you get eaten.

watching Herzog listen to the audio on headphones. Herzog selfishly keeps this audio to himself

coroner who describes the death scene graphically and with suspect enthusiasm.

I found myself continually wanting to punch the filmmaker, and the people he interviewed.

The entire movie is filled with the pretentious voice-over of Mr. Herzog--where he selfishly promotes his tiresome opinions about hunters and the universe.

I felt dirty afterwards.

My DVD of it was promptly smashed and thrown in the trash.
"zooming into a bear's eyes"
Most people end up hating Treadwell... who deserved to get ripped to bloody ribbons.

a small-minded American idiot

spend 13 summers of his life living among grizzly bears

"Hello bear, hello, I love you bear, thank you for being my friend!"

one must wonder why it didn't happen sooner.
