Twin peaks (1990)

"I would read some books rather than see this show anymore!"

All of the characters are very odd - like in the movie "Fargo" - but not humorous like in that movie. I hope wisdom prevails and this kind of nonsense should be avoided in future.

Absolute nonsense, even though the first season to some extent was o.k. I watched it 3 times just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It was so weird and I had heard so many comments about how wonderful Twin Peaks was...

Season 1 was tolerable I guess, but James Hurleys drive tour was total waste of time. I literally could not force myself to watch the entire second season. Only the first 10 and then the last maybe 3 episodes - because this is the most overrated title ever made and I have it on DVD.

It was so boring and frustraitin and the ending was just more than enough to take for. Why did I not just Quit?

The frustratingly-slow pace of the show seals the deal. slow, slow, SLOW-moving story... people must feel obligated to rate it so high. Or surely for some elderly folk this brings back memories... but how come they come to imdb to give a vote, its beyond me! Being old is simply not a good argument alone.

So many unnecessary scenes... so little proper criminal investigation... This is not life imitating art, as much as art doing its best to imitate completely mindless ideas. What exactly is their criteria of what is original? Sure, compared to the "Bill Cosby Show" it's original...but its alleged wild ingenuity, or whatever... more like rather silly stuff with dwarfs and other Fellini-eccentricities.

Kyle MacLachlan (I should get a medal for bothering to spell his name right)... the apparent quirkiness of the disjointed characters was just too much to bare more than 3 times.

some people have given it 10/10, so I tried it. But I could not care about those people, except agent Cooper and Gordon Cole... and maybe the sherif and deputy Hawk. And Lucy and Andy were rather funny, and Leland Palmer was well played, and Shelly and Donna and Annie were cute and/or pretty. The main cast did not irritate me that much.

Glad I watched it 3 times so now I can talk about it when somebody brings it up.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

Official Tag-lines:
"Avoid this film at all cost."
"Stay away!"
In my long career of watching movies I have built a strong immunity system against terrible films.

In the theatre, probably 15-20 people walked out before it was even over. I kept watching because I COULD NOT BELIEVE that any movie could be this bad.

In fact, I didn't see anything I liked.

Boring! A movie about two men on a drug binge is boring! And lifeless too.

Unpleasant to watch, unpleasant to think about afterwards. I'm surprised it's not in the Bible as a Missing Plague.

uuuuuugh.

Benicio Del Toro was alright though.

Johnny Depp's acting was good.

Depp and Toro are both considered two of Hollywood's sexiest men
I did like the monsters in the bar scene.

the carpet pattern swirling, that wasn't bad

The cinematography, set design and location were great.

two heavy drug addicts are somewhat funny to watch.

how mega brilliant is Hunter S Thompson's original book?

If some day any of my kids try to use drugs, my punishment will be forcing them to watch this movie

I give this a 2/10.

(Each line is taken from individual review with 1/10 points rating and nothing else. There is no shortage of negative reviews.)

Jurassic Park (1993)

"I only watched it to see the dinosaurs"

who haven't seen this movie (there are people like that?)

Directed by the mighty Steven Speilberg

I remember being a kid when I first watched it

Never before 1993 had dinosaurs been so breathtaking

Park bedazzled us with dinosaurs. Dinosaurs that are EXTINCT.

awesome T-Rex

Behemoths, Spinosaurious, Stegosauruses... triceratops and Brachiosaurius accompanied by a herd of Parasaurolophus.

Grand Revelation with the brachiosaurs

raptors and the T-Rex, the scene with the T-Rex

T-Rex chases the jeep

they are chased by the T-Rex

see the dinos and enjoy a relaxing time at the park. Could anything go wrong, at the time it doesn't seem like it

I even had a backpack with a Velociraptor

1993 was perhaps the best year

The Phantom Menace (1999)

"This is set somewhere in space."

I become increasingly frustrated with comments on how this new Star Wars doesn't stand up to the originals.

Most underrated Star Wars movie...possibly movie ever!!!

How some fail to appreciate it is the larger piece of a puzzle is disturbing.

Who can deny the excitement of the light-saber dueling, the thrill of the pod race

This is my favorite out of all of them. Why? Cause the story is the beginning of a saga that started first before... It has the beginning!

Set before the others, and confusingly made AFTER

Acting:

Liam Neeson is simply the whole movie Darth Maul's evil look might've been a publicist's dream but Qui gon jinn is the heart of the movie and Ewen Macgregor simply wonderful as Kenobi. The movie never earned all the basing it got it's about as wonderful a time

Darth Maul is such a cold, merciless villain

his motive is to wipe out the Jedi

For one thing, Darth Maul has a double bladed (duel bladed) lightsaber. And I thought it was nice to see an update on the lightsaber formula.
his motive is to wipe out the Jedi
The interaction between Jar Jar, Qui Gon, and Obi Wan was splendid entertainment at its finest!

Anakin is such a cool person because he is a great podracer

when Jar Jar got his head stuck in the pod race electrical line, I was laughing out of control.

He embodies the people in our society who may not be gifted mentally... If you slam Jar Jar, then that should tell you something about yourself as a person.

George Lucas is not racist. The guy who did Jar Jar's voice was given the job because his voice was ideal for the character.

lets face it we need the Gungans because a lot of the time the Naboo are just boring humans.

impressive 3-D shots... you could also see Jar Jar's tongue stick out of the screen in one shot. My eyes did strain a little bit at times

bad acting? I fail to see it

Plot:

This film and it's story has a lot of action and plot!

Most of the critics couldn't even figure out what the *phantom menace* was.

This is the more "adult" side of the Star Wars galaxy.

Makes the world of the original trilogy seem cartoonish

We can see at last see the "old" republic and how it worked and functioned

Viewers also complained about the complexity of the plot with all the politics....my thoughts are that we need to be informed of the fragile and crumbling centre of the republic

vote of no-confidence! How many adults even know what that is? (Hmm... maybe this explains the low ratings.)

I was able to follow the story just fine

Let me let you in on a fact here. Senator Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same person!!!! ...If you miised out on this major plot point, then you entirely missed out on the point of the story.

The epic story sweeps you along to the greatness and deepness of human imagination.

Effects:

This has better special Fx than IV, V and VI

This time though the Empire are using robots! OMFG!

creatures, swordfights, adventure, heros, magic (although called Force) and amazing effects.

You need to see the rest of the film

(there are almost zero special effects, but that just underlines how good the visual effects must be).

special-effects directing is MUCH harder than directing for dialog.

I think this film should have received several Oscars.

10/10 Shits all over Star Trek.

Thank you Mr. Lucas!
